Magus Hermes®  Specialist Skincare & Haircare for Women of Color
By Darlene Simpson, NYC, USA I needed to share this, because I feel that as a group, we as black women, do things that hold us back. I’ve wanted to be a songwriter, for many years and worked hard at my craft. I went to different labels in New York, LA, and even down south. I presented my songs to labels including Bad boy entertainment, Universal records, Interscope, Cash money, Jive, and Warner brothers, because I wanted to deal with professionals, and I was tired of giving songs for free to independent labels who would take my songs and not call back. I still couldn’t get ahead, when it came down to meetings. It only in hindsight, that I knew, that I wasn’t being taken seriously, for something that I thought was not a big deal, but it actually was. You see, I suffered from acne, big time, and had a lot of blackheads on my face, especially on my cheeks. I always used mac foundation to cover up, but it was so bad you could see the acne bumps through it. At the time, we’re talking 2008-2009, when I was having meetings with labels, I didn’t understand that they were also looking at my potential as an artist as well, because many songwriters, are later marketed as singers, like Keri Hilson. In spite of the quality of my work, I found that label execs, were trying to get me to sell songs for peanuts. After getting depressed, I went to see my dad, and he said some serious words to me. He said that I was beautiful, intelligent and talented. But, people only see acne and a fake over confident attitude, and it turns them off. He told me I needed to revamp myself, and that my skin was the first point of call. He helped me, by buying me some acne treatment products and cleansers  as well, from Magus Hermes. I couldn’t believe how fast the products worked. I noticed that my skin was clearer, and I felt better in myself. I’ve started to have meetings again, with record labels, without having to cake my face in mac foundation, and I’m currently negotiating a publishing and songwriting deal with interscope. Universal records have also contacted me for another meeting, since I started going to the right places and feeling genuinely confident without having to be loud. My life has become better, because my skin is clearer, my acne is gone, and this has given me a real positive outlook on life. All I can say, is that looking after your skin, is one of the best investments you can make.
